There was a time when people believed they need to dress up formally on many occasions like a high tea buffet or even on a long-haul flight, now, most people just wear sportswear or streetwear.

Artists’ Influences

Sportswear and streetwear have always been connected with hip-hop cultures. Many established streetwear brands take chances to make their appearances in hip-hop videos and films. Thus, streetwear culture has made its way into the mainstream. Nowadays, with the rising of Korean Pop cultures, youngsters all over the worlds want to wear like how their idols wear.

In addition, many artists have created their own clothing brands that sell premium streetwear. For example, Shawn Yue, a Hong Kong artist has developed his personal clothing label, MADNESS since 2014. The label has gained a lot of exposures because many artists including Shawn himself have made appearances with the label in movie scenes.

Peer Pressure

Like it or not, streetwear has become another threshold into the world of cool kids. Teenagers buy expensively branded streetwear just to snap some photos and post them on social media.

The question is, ‘Do we really need to spend that amount of money on streetwear?”
