It’s our JOM program again!
This post is dedicated to all the parents who have young kids and anyone who has adorable nephews or nieces.
One day, when I was wandering around Sunway Velocity Mall hunting for some awesome boutiques, something caught my eyes. I was impressed when I see small kids around 4 to 6 years old could concentrate on a workshop and create beautiful and unique decoupage arts by themselves.
I approached the young and friendly instructor to find out more information about the workshop. Apparently, they are called 7th Tone Creative, a mobile art and creative class. They open weekly classes at associated kindergartens and art schools around Klang Valley. Occasionally, they hold workshops and events in shopping malls.
“I hope we can have more aesthetic people in this world. One day, perhaps everyone can appreciate the beauty and create beauty.”
Eason Lai, the founder of 7th Tone Creative shared his passion for educating children. “Art class has not been prioritized in most parents’ minds. There’s no right or wrong on whether what classes we choose for kids. However, the younger a child is, the easier to foster the child’s creativity.”
According to Eason, younger kids can always pop up with unexpected ideas because their minds aren’t trapped by stereotypes yet. “When you saw a 4 years old kid coloured an apple with purple and asked why, he would tell you because the apple is poisoned; whereas a 7 years old kid will never use any other colours except red or green.”
Recently, 7th Tone Creative is regularly holding their crafting workshops on Sundays in Commune at Sunway Velocity Mall. Commune serves as a community for artisans by providing spaces for them to encourage the development of creativity and cultures. It is located on the fifth floor of Sunway Velocity Mall. Yesterday, 7th Tone Creative just wrapped up the first series of their Sunday workshops in Commune with the making of Origami Hina Dolls and Halloween Mason Jar. The next series will be starting from 26th November until the Eve of Christmas.
Each of these one-and-half-hour workshops introduces a crafting technique or a special crafting material. Children are not required to bring any tools or materials, they just need to show up, and they will bring back home a piece of unique craft after the class.
To understand more about their workshops, I actually joined the Tie Dye Lantern workshop as the only adult with all the small kids. It was very fun and inspiring. Every kid was excited and couldn’t wait for the next step. When we could finally see the end products of the tie-dye process, we were so happy! Each piece of the fabrics has a unique design and each of them looks beautiful. Everyone was satisfied.
After joining the workshop, all the kids learnt how to tie-dye fabrics. They can use the technique to create beautiful tie-dye shirts or tie-dye bags or anything in future. The bottom line is, they gained confidence because they were encouraged to try using any methods and colours to tie-dye their fabrics and everything turned out beautiful. They have learnt that they can create something beautiful without following a standard sample. This is how a kid’s creativity being unleashed.
This coming school holiday, Eason is bringing all his friends who expert in teaching different crafting skills to offer 10 types of exciting workshops! Let’s have a peek on each of them! Jom!
