It’s the mid of November now, the year-end school holiday is approaching. The duration of the year-end holiday is significantly shorter than those days’, but the one-month-long holiday still causes anxieties among parents. Whether you are a stay at home parent or working parent, you will need to prepare some activities for your children during this coming holiday.
So, we have curated this list of activities and places as a last-minute guide for parents!
#1 The School by Jaya One
Your school is on holiday, but The School is not. The School is the first enrichment mall in Malaysia. You might ask “What is an enrichment mall?” Okay, it’s actually a place where parents can shop and pamper themselves while their children learn and have fun. The mall houses businesses that offer a variety of creative classes and fun activities to spice up your kid’s weekends and holiday.
There are a few of choices including Academy of Rock where you can let your children learn about rock and pop music, Learning Fresh which hosts creative English classes, and Science Bridge Academy that provides innovative and fun experiential science programs!
If you are working or living in Petaling Jaya, you can sign up some interesting classes for your children. After work, you can even have dinner with your kids in the mall itself! Since there are so many choices of classes, your kids will not be bored even if you send them there for the whole month.
#2 Learn Ukulele
Ukulele not only looks cute, but it’s probably one of the easiest musical instrument to learn. Your kids can pick up key chords in days, within one month they can play and sing a lot of songs! Furthermore, the ukulele is very affordable, you can get a decent one around 100 bucks.
There are a lot of dedicated music educators offer ukulele programs for children. You can find a class near your place and let your kids strum!
Not sure whether your kids like ukulele or not? This weekend, Thiam is having a ukulele workshop for children. This is a good chance for your kids to try playing the ukulele before making any commitment.
#3 Be a Drama King/Queen
It is proven that learning drama, theatre and performing arts has positive influences on young people. I can vouch for the benefits of learning drama because I used to learn drama during schooling time.
The most obvious of the benefits I’ve gotten is the improvement of my physical fitness. Performing requires intensive movement over a prolonged period. Therefore, drama classes consist of a lot of physical exercises. I’ve learnt how to use my strength efficiently and how to protect myself from injuries during training.
Most parents send their kids to drama classes to build self-confidence. In drama classes, children are encouraged to contribute their ideas to create the settings and every performing line. Children can learn to trust their ideas and abilities thus become more confident. They can then apply their confidence and creativity to other moments in their life.
Ants Children Theater is a centre that provides a variety of performing art classes including Creative Drama, Story Telling, Public Speaking, etc. They are offering two sessions of trial classes for kids who never tried drama classes before. Don’t miss the opportunity to understand better about the power of drama classes!
#4 7th Tone Creative
If your kids like handcrafting, don’t forget to check out 7th Tone Creative’s workshops during this coming holiday. We have an article about them in the last wave of ‘JOM’.
Every hobby course has its benefits to children. Attending various classes help your kids to unleash their inner talents and foster a series of soft skills that can help them to perform better in school, life and career in future.
However, enough of rest time and more quality time to spend with family is also crucial to develop your kids’ physical and mental health. Do you still have any paid leave days? Spend some and take your kids on a short vacation!
