Keeping Up with the Good News in Malaysia

Keeping Up with the Good News in Malaysia

Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth projection for this year to 4.8% from 4.5% on the better-than-expected growth of the country in the first quarter of the year, which is 5.6%. At the same time, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) also upgraded Malaysia’s growth outlook to 4.7% from 4.4%. The robust exports and strong domestic demand have brought the economy onto a gradual economic recovery after the slowed growth over the past two years.

Besides the good news from IMF, there are few exciting events happening in Malaysia. Since August is our Patriotic Month, let’s celebrate all the good things for the country!

The Launch of Phase 2 Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT Line

I was a commuter back in 2011before I studied abroad. I see a huge difference for the public transport system compared to back then. The extension lines of LRT, the increasing numbers of feeder buses and the launch of MRT line, lead to an integrated public transport system in Klang Valley.

One of the highlights of this year is the launch of the 2nd phase of the 51km MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line. Including the 1st phase’s stations, the 31 stations in total cover many massive areas and tourist attractions. It will be the game-changer to the lives of Malaysians and tourists.

I’ve been waiting for the 2nd Phase to completed because there is a station near my house. When it finally launched, I was very excited and on the same weekend, my family decided to take the MRT all the way to Stadium Kajang Station to eat Satay. The experience is very satisfying: We easily found a parking near the station, the interior of the train is very spacious and well air-conditioned, and we skipped the traffic congestion! We always want to eat the delicious Satay in Kajang but the mad traffic stops us, now it’s no longer a problem!

Looking at the old and updated rail transit maps, we can see the drastic changes of the rail transit system in Klang Valley. These changes only could happen on the efforts and cooperation of government, developers and the public. Building the MRT line itself is a challenging task, especially the underground stations. But once it was launched, it could benefit all commuters.

By the way, I highly recommend those you to use your Touch ‘n Go Card instead of buying one-way token while taking MRT. Why? To escape from the long queue at the ticket vending machines during peak hours and most importantly, you’ll get discounts by using your Touch ‘n Go Card!

The Counting Down of 2017 Southeast Asian Games – KL2017

Another exciting highlight of the year is the 29th Southeast Asian Games, which is going to start in 12 days!

We can see Rimau, the official mascot in everywhere, waving his hand to tell us to celebrate the event together.

The motto of 2017 Southeast Asian Games is “Rising Together”. It was chosen to signify Southeast Asia as a community and a region that has come a long way in making its mark on the global stage and to urge its people that it is time to come together to write the next chapter in the collective journey of peace, progress, and prosperity. It also signifies that with Kuala Lumpur 2017 Southeast Asian Games being the first SEA Games after the formation of the ASEAN Community, sports will play a big role in bringing all the citizens of Southeast Asia together in celebrating Malaysians achievements and commitment towards sportsmanship, as well as uplifting and inspiring the entire region.

This is a meaningful event and it was an honor for our country to host the games. The Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) has opened opportunities for the public to get involved in this event. The public can actually join the Torch Run for free or join MASOC as a volunteer. If you’ve missed the chances to get involved in the activities KL2017, you can still support the event by supporting the national athletes!

Meanwhile, TopNotch is going to hold the 3rd Wave Facebook Campaign soon. So, stay tuned!
